Honor Society
National Elementary Honor Society The Aloma D. Johnson Charter School has established a chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) to recognize students for special achievements. The NEHS is a program of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) in cooperation with the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP). This program is designed for all elementary schools and includes two primary functions: Recognizing the accomplishments of students — the whole child, specifically the full range of a student’s academic achievements and the ability to be a responsible student at school, at home, and in the community. Involving students as members participating in the activities of the chapter; and involving all students through leadership development and service activities, enhancing the ‘culture of achievement’ in the school. The criteria for NEHS have been devised to be both age-appropriate and easily-understood by elementary students and parents. Scholarship and responsibility are the initial criteria, followed by the development of leadership and service. The academic criterion includes having an average of an 85 or higher in grade 3. Students must maintain their average throughout their fourth grade year.
