State Testing
At Aloma D. Johnson Charter School all students in grades K-4 participate in both local and state standardized assessments. All students in grades K-4 will participate in aimsweb testing. At the heart of aimsweb are Curriculum-Based Measures (CBM) of reading and math performance for grades K-12. Assessments include Early Literacy, Reading, Early Numeracy, Mathematics, Spelling and Writing. They’re compatible with any curriculum or set of standards—including Common Core State Standards—and have the predictive power to report the likely outcome of your state test. In addition to the aimsweb students in grades 3 and 4 will also take the New York State ELA and Math state assessments. Grade 4 students also take a NYS Science performance and written state assessment. All students will also take the STAR assessments which are aligned to the Common Core Curriculum. The STAR assessments are technologically based assessments which give educators the information they need to individualize instruction. These assessments are given 5 times a year and are used to monitor progress. All NYS exams are developed in accordance with national industry and professional standards for educational testing. The exams are carefully constructed to align with and assess the knowledge and skills set forth in the NYS learning standards. State exams are used to measure the extent to which individual students achieve the NYS learning standards in particular subjects and to determine whether schools, districts and the State meet the required progress targets specified in the NYS accountability system.
